Robert "Bob" J. Van Klompenberg, age 96, of Holland, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. He was at home and peaceful – exactly the way he wanted to finish his time on earth. With confidence, his family says Bob was greeted with, "Well done my good and faithful servant."

Bob was not a fan of obituaries saying his should read; "Bob died." Those who knew him best can imagine the sly grin and twinkling eyes that would have accompanied this statement. Quick witted, devoted to his family, and a man of deep faith, Bob, Grandpa, Great Gramps leaves a legacy that embodies the piece of advice he offered most frequently in his golden years, "Work hard and don't forget to have fun." His memory will also live on in the sweet tooth that many of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren inherited.

A teacher by nature and trade, Bob had a Masters in Soil from Michigan State University. His education expertise included agricultural and biblical studies, including writing his own bible curriculum. He taught at Byron Center High School, where he also coached basketball, and Hudsonville Public High School. Later he went on to work for the MSU Cooperative Extension Service as the District Horticulture and Marketing Agent.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Minnie (Boes)
Van Klompenberg; his siblings: Herb & Ruth Van Klompenberg, Bernie & Hess Van Noord; Jerene & Elmer Hoeksema, Herm Lubbinge, Mel Hancock, Arlyn
De Kock; and great grandson Kole Berghuis.

He is survived by his wife, Ilah; children: Rob & Arenda (Nick & Lauren: Amelia; Caleb; Katie & Mike; Nathaniel; Cody; Chase; Sam; Savanna; Ella); Jill & Chuck Berghuis (Joshua & Tara Berghuis: Kyler, Ryenn, Hurley, Brooklyn; Noëll & Jeff Engbers: Charley, Myles, Areli, Lance; Gabe & Ali Berghuis: Fletcher, Clementine; Hope & Adam; Gideon); Ross & Suzann (Jenna & Mark Wierenga: Claire, Max; Julia & Caleb Hartung: Scarlett, expecting baby boy); Chip & Karen (Hunter & Victoria); and extended family: Norene (Lubbinge) Hancock, Dolores De Kock, and many nieces and nephews.

An intimate graveside service honoring Bob will be held at 11:00am Monday, December 6, 2021 at Jamestown Cemetery – all are welcome. Plans for a larger, joy-filled memorial service honoring Bob's legacy of faith, family, hard work, and fun will be announced in the next few weeks. Memorial contributions may be made to Young Life Western Great Lakes Region, Hospice of Holland, or Unity Christian High School.
