Obituary

Miles Benjamin Harten, age 88, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Providence Healthcare in Zeeland, MI.

Miles was born January 23, 1929 in Buffalo, NY to Miles B. and Tryphena Harten. After graduating in 1948 from Bradford High School in Bradford, PA, Miles served in the United States Marine Corp until 1952 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant. He married Demaris Davis on January 29, 1954 at Grace Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, PA.

Miles worked for Pennsylvania Electric for more than 35 years and was a lifetime member of Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally he was a former member of Don Roabe Big 30 Charities Classic, a member of the Marine Corps League and a member of Masonic Lodge #749. He was also active in coaching Derrick City Little League Baseball and Bradford Midget Football and volunteering at the Friendship Table at Bradford Manor.
Miles was preceded in death by Demaris Harten, his wife of more than 50 years.

He is survived by his sons: Jeffery (Ann) Harten of Holland, MI and Gregery (Michele) Harten of Tifton, GA; grandchildren: Matthew (Kari) Harten, Allyson (Joe) Shelley, Jaclyn Harten, Griffin Harten and Natalie Harten; and great-grandchildren: Kayleigh and Aayden; as well as by his sister Judy Harten.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th St. Holland, MI 49423. Additional services and interment take place in Bradford, PA under the direction of Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
