Maurice Carley, age 83, of Hudsonville, entered into his heavenly home on Sunday, February 5, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Maurice was born in Kings, Ontario to Nelson and Vera Carley. Maurice was born three months premature and was kept warm in a shoebox by the oven. He began working at the age of 16 for Keeler Brass and continued there for many years. He later worked at Grandville Cemetery and was a landlord working daily with his wife Clara.
Along with his brother Donald, Maurice built a telescope when they were children and developed a love of astronomy.
A longtime member of Forest Grove CRC, Maurice was a faithful follower of Christ and served for many years as a cadet leader, deacon and elder. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 58 years, Clara; children: Debra (Randy) VanderKooy, Dale (Michelle) Carley, and Terry (Julie) Carley; grandchildren: Luke (Sarah) VanderKooy, Sara (Paul) Engelsman, Rachel (Nick) Paquette, Jamie (Ethan) Elhart, Josh Crothers, Tyler Carley, and Tara Carley; as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are in-laws: Maxine Carley, Bert (Caroline) Kreuze, Jose Kreuze, and Jerene (Marv) Tamminga; and many nieces and nephews.
Maurice was preceded in death by his infant son Dale and brother Donald Carley.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Forest Grove CRC, 3515 Perry Street, Hudsonville, MI 49426. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, also at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland.
