Obituary

Marjorie (Dykstra) Pursifull, age 90, died peacefully in the late evening at her home in Holland on Monday, August 9, 2021.

Marge was deeply kind, quick to laugh, fiercely independent, and a great listener. She loved her children and her grandchildren, enjoyed her life in various homes in Grosse Pointe, Dearborn, Denver, Grand Rapids, Traverse City and Holland, and loved her beach life on Lake Michigan in Montague. Most importantly, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She lived a life of quiet service and laid down a deep legacy of faith for her family.

Marge was always up for an adventure. She enjoyed long hikes and rides in the various boats that made their way to pick her up on the beach, or in one of the many jeeps her sons own, or in her good friend's Gator. Her affinity for finding the back roads to any location was remarkable as was her ability to find a warm spot in or out of the house. As she moved her chair to follow the sun, that's where she could be found right up until sunset whenever possible. She loved to play games with the kids, shop at fun stores, cross country ski, attend great theatre and ballet productions, meet friends for book club and participate in various Bible studies. When she wasn't out out and about, she could definitely be found reading and spending time in God's Word. All the while, she took on whatever challenges she faced along the way with grace and strength, and never a complaint.

She was born on December 19,1930, the daughter of Bennett and Barbara (Straatsma) Dykstra. Number eight of their ten children, she was among the strong kids these Dutch immigrant parents raised during the heart of the Great Depression. In the evening, over a cup of tea, she loved to recount the stories of her youth. After Marge began her life as an adult, Ross Walters Pursifull swept her off her feet in 1954 and they were married on December 20, had six children and made many more wonderful memories.

Surviving are her children Barbara (Charles) Bobeldyk, Cynthia Kleiman, Ross (Judith) Pursifull, Marjorie (Jim) Styf, Bill (Stacy) Pursifull, and Jill (Scott) Nelson; seventeen grandchildren (Kevin (Brook), Drew, Ross (Sarah), Robert (Bonnie), Paul, Matt (Kelly), Thomas (Maizee), Caleb, Maggie, Hailey, Marli, Sydney, Ellie, Kate, Andrew, Emily and Ben) and eight great grandchildren (Hudson, Crusoe, Rowan, Finley, Kylo, Grace, Kinsley, and Boden). She is also survived by her sister-in-law Penny Dykstra and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her siblings Jim (Margaret) Dykstra, Paul (Wilma) Dykstra, Joan (Bob) Vogel, Lou (Jerry) Dykstra, Julie (Jim) DeBorst, Florence (Bob) Randolph, Gwen (Paul) Vruwink, Ann (Herman) DeWaard, and Bennett Dykstra; her husband Ross, and her son-in-law Don Kleiman.
