Obituary

Lucia Raegan Kesner, our courageous Warrior of Light, took her very first steps into the Kingdom of Heaven on her 8th birthday at 4:31pm on Friday, November 15th, 2019.

Lucia was diagnosed with a rare and terminal disease called Mucolipidosis Type II, also known as I-Cell disease. It is a debilitating and medically compromising genetic disorder, with no known cure and many children lose their battle within the first decade of life.

Lucia was a joyful, smart and sassy little girl who had tenacity for life and a love for music and family. Despite her medical complexities, setbacks and limitations, Lucia was strong, determined and brave. Lucia had a special connection with her pink bear, small Berenstain Bear book and blue medical tape. Lucia loved to have books read, play with Mr. Potato Head and praise to worship music. She was well-known for her funny faces, gestures, saying "hi" and "blowing kisses with love winks".

The memories created with Lucia will live with family and friends forever and will always be celebrated. Lucia's name means "Light" and that's exactly what she was each and every day. Her impact will extend beyond her life because of the light she radiated and has now instilled into those she loved.

Lucia is survived by her mother, Geneva Kesner; maternal Grandparents, Dwight and Christine Wilcox; maternal Great Grandmother, Emma Kasmier; Uncle and Aunt/Godparents, Rick and Jeannette Riffe; Uncle and Aunt, Jeff and Angela McClure; Uncle and Aunt, Stephen and Heather Kesner; Cousins, Josh and Amanda Riffe, Andrew and Caitlin Brown, Olivia DeHart, Alexis McClure, Jonathon Skow, Stephen & Jillian Kesner.

Lucia is preceded in death by her maternal Grandfather, Stephen E. Kesner I: maternal Great Grandparents, Eugene and Ruth Kesner.

Visitation and service will be held at Ada Bible Church in Caledonia, MI on Friday, November 22, 2019. Visitation is 10:00 am -12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 12:00 pm. A luncheon will be provided following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Lucia's family asks that donations be made to the Yash Ghandi Foundation at www.ygf4icell.org. Donations will go toward research efforts to find a cure for I-Cell / Mucolipidosis Type II disease. Please make sure to make the donation in Honor of Lucia Raegan Kesner.
