Obituary for Karen Slipchuk

January 17, 1939 - March 3, 2018
Grand Rapids, Michigan | Age 79

Karen Slipchuk, age 79, passed away on Saturday, March 3 2018 at Metro Hospital, Grand Rapids.

Sending love and light to the spirit of the strongest, hardest working, and fiercely independent woman I have ever known. My mother taught me how to make my own way in this world unapologetically and authentically. She always said "You can get away with anything as long as you act like a lady while you are doing it". She was right!

Generous to a fault, she helped rescue many stray animals by funding midnight trips to the Emergency Animal Hospitals. She was a HUGE animal lover. She adopted cats and was a supporter of Crash's Landing.

Her tireless efforts in caring for her own mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's will not be forgotten. She will be an inspiration for the rest of my life and I am grateful that she will always be my mother.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Myrna Vogel.

She is survived by her daughter, Alana Slipchuk of Grand Rapids; sister, Tonia McKeever; brother-in-law, Alan Vogel; and niece and nephews, Peter, Brett, Lisa, and Peter.

Visitation is 4:00-6:00 pm Wednesday, March 7 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland, MI 49464.

Funeral services are 11:00 am Thursday, March 8 also at Yntema Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Bruce Osbeck.

Burial to take place in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen's honor to Crashes Landing Cat Rescue and Placement, 1545 Diamond Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
