Junior Van Rhee, 79, of Zeeland, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
Junior was born November 19, 1937, in Drenthe, Michigan, to George and Helen (Kamps) Van Rhee. He graduated from Hudsonville High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Junior was a combat disabled veteran and a life member of the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans). After returning from Korea, Junior married Harlene Gruppen and worked for over 30 years at General Electric. They were members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland for many years. Harlene preceded Junior in death in 1995. After retiring from GE, Junior worked for J.C. Penney, and later Family Fare. Junior married Elaine Bauer Woudwyk in 1997, and they became members of Second Reformed Church of Zeeland. Junior was also preceded in death by his infant son Matthew John Van Rhee in 2000, and his siblings and in-laws: Harvey and Hermina Van Rhee, Arlene Geurink, and Clarissa and Ken Graveling.
Junior is survived by his wife, Elaine, step-daughter Alice Marie Woudwyk, in-laws: Betty Bauer of Satsuma, FL, Fred and Pam Bauer of Clio, Jim and Lisa Bauer of Kentucky, brother-in-law Marv Geurink.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Second Reformed Church, 225 East Central Avenue, Zeeland MI 49464. His pastor, the Rev. Karsten Voskuil will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wednesday, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
