Joan Thomas Breitmeyer passed away peacefully at Freedom Village on Tuesday, January 19, at the age of 90.
She is survived by her four children: JoAnne and Melinda Breitmeyer of Palo Alto, California, James Breitmeyer of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Philip Breitmeyer of Manhattan, Kansas, as well as three grandchildren.
Joan was active in the communities where she lived, a writer and amateur artist. Born in Detroit, she did homefront volunteer work during World War II, studied journalism at the University of Michigan where she was a member of Collegiate Sorosis, and pursued graduate studies at Columbia University. She married Philip Breitmeyer II, a management consultant, who predeceased her. She was involved with numerous activities, including the Northern California Arthritis Association and the San Francisco Ballet, and worked with her daughter JoAnne's Silicon Valley graphics company for many years.
The family invites Joan's friends and relatives to a visitation on Sunday, February 7th from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 PM at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland, MI 49423.
