Obituary

Jeanne Evelyn Meyer Otting, age 88, of Holland, MI stepped out of her earthly body into the arms of her Savior on Sunday January 14, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Jeanne was born in Berwyn, Illinois to Klaus (Nick) and Martha Meyer. She graduated from Timothy Christian School in Cicero, Illinois which was founded as a school for the children of Dutch immigrants in the area. After relocating to Jamestown, Michigan with her parents Jeanne attended Calvin College and worked as an administrative assistant at the DeWitt Hatchery. In 1955 she married the love of her life, John B. Otting. While her children where in school she volunteered for the Holland Christian School Circle, and was a dedicated homemaker. After her children were grown Jeanne worked part-time at Holland Hospital and volunteer for Hospice of Holland. Jeanne was an excellent listener, quick-witted, generous, and a God-fearing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Bay Presbyterian Church of America in Bonita Springs, Florida where she and her husband enjoyed winters for over 25 years.

Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Martha Meyer; husband of 59 years, John B Otting; sister, Ann (Hank) Lumkes; brother Johnnie Meyer, and sister-in-law's Nora (Alfred) Dozema, Dorothy (Alvin) Geerlings, and Beatrice (Howard) Redder.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Dr. Jody (Randall) Vogelzang (Katelyn (Hayden), Kara, and Kar) of East Grand Rapids, MI; and son Joel (Elizabeth) Otting of Chandler, AZ.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 19 at 4:30pm at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland, MI with Pastor Thomas Vanden Heuvel officiating. Friends and family are invited to share a cup of coffee and memories with the family from 3:00pm-4:00pm prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Zeeland Cemetery, Zeeland, MI. Contributions in Jeanne's memory may be made to Rescue One Foundation – Haiti and Roosevelt Park Ministries.
