Dr. Jay Veltman, age 87 of Holland, entered into his heavenly home on Thursday, March 16, 2017.
Jay was born in Grand Rapids and attended Calvin College before attending medical school at the University of Michigan. A man of service, Jay was a resident at Children's Hospital in Detroit, served the U.S. Navy and then was a pediatrician in Grandville for 40 years. Jay was a member of Ivanrest CRC, volunteered for Bethany Christian Services and G.R.A.P.E. emergency services.
Jay was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Jay is survived by, Alberta, his wife of 63 years; daughters: Jayne (Kim) Gort of Holland, Lora (Mike) Boogaard of Cutlerville, and Beth Veltman of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: Stacey (Tom) Farris, Sarah (Mark) Kortman, Abbie (Nate) Petroelje, Sara (David) Gardner, Kelly (Mark) Plaisier, and Michelle (Jack) DeGroot and 17 great-grandchildren; also surviving are sisters: Joyce (Marvin) Koets of Grand Rapids, Donna (Tom) Westra of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law June Vander Wall of Jenison; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 as well as 11:00-11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th Street, Holland. A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Rev. Tony Meyer will officiate. Interment will be at Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Helen Devos Children's Hospital or Hospice of Holland.
