Obituary

Howard Albers, 87, of Holland, formerly of Hamilton, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

Howard was born May 1, 1934, in East Martin, the son of Bernie and Jennie (Zoerhof) Albers and was raised in Drenthe. He served 2 years in the army, married Jean Visser Kraai and moved to Zeeland. They later moved to Hamilton where Howard and Jean raised their children and where Howard built, owned and operated Albers Body Shop for over 35 years before retiring. Howard enjoyed playing fast pitch softball (left handed pitcher), bowling, and golfed in several leagues throughout his life. He also had a love for music and learned to play the accordion, piano, and organ. He sang in a men's quartet as well as singing in the choir at church. Howard and Jean were members of Hamilton Christian Reformed Church, where he was very active and served as a deacon. At the time of his passing Howard was an active member of Christ Memorial Church and especially enjoyed his time with the choir.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his infant daughter Pattie, his daughter Myra Van Mersbergen, his brothers-in-law: Fred Bleckley, Denny Kraai, and Jack Kraai.

He is survived by his daughter Pam (Ron) Jones of Hamilton, son Bryan (Sue) Albers of Hudsonville, son-in-law Howard Van Mersbergen of Hudsonville, grandchildren: Jennifer (Tony) Van Gelder, Jessica (Brandon) Vanden Bosch, Laura (Craig) Peters, Kristin (Luke) Bouman, Sara (Joel) Mulder, Elisabeth (Kris) Vanderwall, and Brendan Albers; 12 great grandchildren; sister Shirley (Pep) Nagelkirk, in-laws: Angie Bleckley, Penny Berens, Wayne and Sue Kraai, Bob Kraai, Pam Kraai, and many extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in the Sanctuary of Christ Memorial Church (PLEASE use Entrance C or D), 595 Graafschap Rd., Holland MI 49423. You may visit with the family, Tuesday, Sept 7, between 5-7 p.m. at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland, MI 49464. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Hamilton.
