Obituary

Hazel Ann Boeve went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Rest Haven Care Center in Holland. She will spend this Christmas in heaven with her husband Wayne who preceded her in death just six months ago. Hazel was born on April 12, 1935 to John and Susan (Gruppen) DeRoo in Zeeland, MI. After her graduation from Zeeland High School, Hazel married her true love, Wayne Boeve, on September 21, 1955. Together, in Holland, they raised their family of three sons and one daughter. Hazel was a member of Graafschap Christian Reformed Church where she was blessed with life-long friends and fellowship through her service and worship. She volunteered for CRC Disaster Relief and Ditto Resale. Hazel and Wayne loved to camp with family and friends. She treasured the time spent camping with her cousins at the CRC Conference Grounds every summer. Hazel never turned down a game of cards or going out for dinner. But, by far, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of Hazel's granddaughters perfectly described her as "the quintessential grandma," embodying everything you would want your grandma to be. She was dearly loved by many.

Hazel is survived by her children Keith and Paula Boeve, Kraig and MaryBeth Boeve, Ron and Jan Boeve, and Sheryl and James Jo, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, sister Barb Meeuwsen, brother Herwin DeRoo (Lois), sister-in-law Doris Langejans (Gordon), sister-in-law Ardella Gates (Stan), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, sister Gerry VanTatenhove and her husband Ken, brother-in-law Jerry Meeuwsen, brother-in-law Dick Boeve, and grandson Chris Boeve.

The family will honor Hazel's faith and life with a private memorial service to be held in the narthex of Graafschap Christian Reformed Church. Pastor Phil Kok will officiate. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a lasting gift in Hazel's name are asked to remember the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, an organization which diligently supported Hazel after her diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma six years ago.
