Harold J. Schipper, 90, of Holland, Michigan, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
He was a member of the First Protestant Reformed Church of Holland, Michigan. Harold served in the U.S.M.C. during WWII in the Asian theater and fought in the battle of Okinawa. He was a long-time employee of the Holland Parks Department where he was the caretaker of Centennial Park. He married Dorothy Zandstra on June 24, 1949, and they were married for 17 years. Dorothy passed away on December 15, 1966. Harold later married Edna Ensink and she preceded him on July 31, 2014. Harold was also preceded by grandson Andrew Schipper, and great-granddaughter Adelyn Schipper.
He is survived by his children: Jane and Rich Van Til, John and Lori Schipper, Pete and Pat Schipper, Tom and Luanne Schipper, Dan and Laura Schipper; step-children: Fred and Janet Ensink, Kyle Hoonhorst, Marie and Bob Heyboer, Chuck and Barb Ensink, Bob and Karen Ensink; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Herm Schipper, in-laws: Sadie Knoper, Edith Docter, Betty and John Templeman, Ben and Diane Zandstra, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the faith and life of Harold Schipper will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 23, at First Protestant Reformed Church, 3641 104th Ave., Zeeland 49464. Visitation 6-9 pm, Friday, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Protestant Reformed Special Education or Covenant Christian High School.
