Gordon Plaggemars, 96, of Zeeland, died Friday, December 22, 2017.

Gord was born in Holland, Michigan, April 23, 1921, to Edwin and Susie (Speet) Plaggemars. Gordon served his country in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He married Vivian Walstra and they made their home in Holland where they raised their family and were members of Fourth Reformed Church for 33 years. Gordon was involved in many leadership projects at Fourth Reformed including, choir, custodian, and building supervisor. Gord worked for Baker Furniture for 22 years, and retired from Herman Miller after 15 years of service. Gordon and Vivian moved to Zeeland and joined First Reformed Church where Gord served as a deacon, elder, and in the choir. He was also a member of the JOY group and Sunday School. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian in 2014, his son Jack in 1984, daughter-in-law Sharon Plaggemars in 2014, and his 3 siblings: Shirley Dykema, Lois Knoll, Fern Klaasen.

Gord was the happiest behind the wheel of any vehicle-car, truck, boat, limousine, snowmobile, or lawn mower. He had driven in every state and the stories of any adventure always began with the make, model, and year of the car he was driving.
