Glady Karsten, 97, of Zeeland, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017.
A witness to almost a century of American history Glady sang her way through 8 decades of involvement in music. She focused her life on the linchpins of family and faith.
Marrying the love of her life, Henry, in 1945, she ventured into music with groups such as the Zeeland Civic Chorus (charter member and 60 year participant),Women's All Church Chorus, church choirs. She also sang in trios, duets and as soloist. She sang at many funerals often filling in on only an hour's notice. She directed children's and adult choirs while encouraging her children and grandchildren in music.
She was active in civic affairs such as the Zeeland Literary Club, Faith Reformed Church as well as sports, which she loved particularly, her beloved University of Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Tigers. She faithfully followed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all activities always making time for each child. She engaged and challenged each member of the family to have a firm reliance on her Savior, Jesus Christ. She fought the good fight, she has finished her course and has kept the faith.
Her beloved husband Henry preceded her in death in 1990.
She is survived by her children: Kit and Sandy Karsten of Olive Center, Dawn & Bob Larsen of Zeeland, Ned Karsten of Zeeland; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Chris and Alicia Karsten(Samantha), Matt and Amanda Karsten(Noah, Miles), Steve Karsten, Tracey and Jeff Willemstein(Isaac, Maddie), Mike and Cara Larsen(Zoe, Zach, Eli, Mia), Andrea and Kevin Brink(Chase, Logan), Kate and Gary Rosowski(Graham, Hannah), sister-in-law Mary Ann Schrotenboer Tuma, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A family graveside service will be held in Zeeland Cemetery. A memorial service will take place 7:00 pm, Monday, April 17, 2017, at Faith Reformed Church A time to visit the Karsten family will be 6:00-6:45 prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
