Gerald Huizenga, age 94 of Zeeland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, February 12, 2016.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 49 years Ann; children and grandchildren: Bill and Natalie Huizenga (Garrett, Adrian, Alexandra, Will and Sieger) of Zeeland and Nancy and Dr. Reggie Kapteyn (Emma, Sophia and Annika) of Spring Lake; stepchildren: James and Liza Barry (Brooke, Andrew, Nina and Anna) of Holland, Andrea Barry of Holland; siblings: Margaret and Jerry Sytsma, Evelyn and Roger Rietberg, William and Judy Huizenga; in-laws: Elmira Huizenga, Joann Quinn and Helen and Richard Geiger.
He was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses: Allene and Charlie Gougen, Harvey Huizenga and Sylvia and Jay Vander Meulen; his sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law Gertrude and William Lawson and Bernard Quinn.
Gerald was a charter member of Haven Christian Reformed Church. He was the former President of Huizenga Redi-Mix and owner of Huizenga Gravel and later was involved in real estate development. He served on Zeeland City Council for 30 years and also served as an Ottawa County Commissioner from 1989-1990.
Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army/Air Corp during WWII and survived the crash of a B-24 on December 23, 1944 in Italy.
Visitation will be 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Haven Christian Reformed Church, 541 Alice Street, Zeeland, MI 49464. A reception will follow at the Howard Miller Community Center, 14 South Church Street, Zeeland. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
