George W. Lubben, 81, of Holland, went home to his heavenly Father on Sunday, February 21, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
George was born April 27, 1934, in Berwyn, Illinois, to William and Swanie (Westerhof) Lubben. He grew up in Cicero and the family moved to Holland in 1951. In 1954, he joined the U.S. Army where he served primarily in Germany during the Korean War. George married Goldie Nagelkirk in 1956 and they raised their five children in Holland.
George worked in purchasing for many companies. He retired from Haworth purchasing department where he was proud to have served. He retired from Haworth in 1997.
Upon retiring, George and Goldie moved to Grand Haven. They loved Grand Haven and enjoyed many wonderful years there.
George and Goldie were longtime members of Harderwyk Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, elder and deacon. When the Lubbens moved to Grand Haven they became members of Covenant Life Church.
George had many hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and traveling with Goldie. He was passionate about coaching and talked often about it later in life. George spent many years coaching little league, and men's softball teams.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
George was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laura Klomparens. siblings and in-laws: Marianne and George Voss, Jean and Mike Lambers, Carol and Sam Basner, Dave and Jennie Lubben, Ralph Lubben, Dennis Nagelkirk, Melvin Nagelkirk, Bob Meeuwsen.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Goldie, children: Gregg and Michelle Lubben of Wyoming, MI, Karen and Gary Klomparens of Woodruff, SC, Todd Lubben of Zeeland, Wayne and Kelli Lubben of Holland, Tom Lubben of Zeeland; 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, siblings: Fred and Joyce Lubben, Hennie and Ron Driesenga; in-laws: Gladys Lubben, Pauline Meeuwsen, Sherwin and Jeanette Nagelkirk, Ardith and Don Vander Schaaf, Marcia and Joe Wiggers, Terry and Deb Nagelkirk, Phyllis and Harold Hommerson, many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Harderwyk Church, 1627 W. Lakewood Blvd, Holland 49424. The Rev. Trent Walker will officiate. Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Wednesday, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to World Renew or the Alzheimer's Association.
