Edwina (Winnie) Welton, age 98, died peacefully on February 11, 2021 after family and friends were able to visit with her to share memories of a life well-lived. She is survived by two children, a daughter-in-law, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Jack Welton, her son, Roy Welton, and her great grandchild, Alex Torres.

Winnie lived a full life and always enjoyed social interaction with family, friends and new acquaintances. She was thoughtful and wise, and always entertaining, engaging, witty and fun. Her friends would comment that there never was a dull moment when you were with Winnie.
Winnie was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised on Long Island and attended Brooklyn College. There, she met her husband, Jack, and joined and became a Life Member of Kappa Delta, a national sorority.

After WWII, Winnie and Jack settled in Saugerties, New York, where they raised three children. Winnie worked in the local high school library for 25 years and her husband taught school and coached tennis at the high school. She was a founding member of the 398 Club.

After Winnie and Jack retired, they moved to Rossmoor, an active adult retirement community in Walnut Creek, California. There, Winnie was active in the Rossmoor Tennis Club, ballroom dancing, swimming and her book clubs. She and her husband enjoyed numerous trips abroad to Europe and Asia.
Winnie and Jack moved to Holland, Michigan in 2006 to be closer to family members living here. Winnie participated in a number of book clubs, volunteered at the Commons at Evergreen, volunteered and worshipped at Trinity Reformed Church and enjoyed the love and support of her large family in Holland.

Winnie is survived by her children, Bradlee Welton (Michelle Moore) of Richmond, California, Janus Welton (Jeff Markle) of Saugerties, New York, and her daughter-in-law, Cindi Welton of Holland.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Courtney Welton (Taylor Owens) from Chicago, Darcy Fluharty (Bill), Dee Dee Torres (Drew), Adam Magoon (Kim) all from Holland and Andre Welton from Nevada City, California.

She was also blessed with great grandchildren Brecken and Casen VanLonkhuyzen from Chicago, Aaron Torres (Bethany), Andrea Torres and her son Andrew Ty, Jack and James Daniel Magoon and Mary Komejan-Rose (Alan) and her two children Eleanor and Jack, all from the Holland area.
