Earl Hemmeke, 69, of Holland, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
Earl was born in Holland, Michigan, on December 6, 1947, to Ernest and Nelva (Van Wyk) Hemmeke. Earl graduated from Holland Christian High School and attended Calvin College for two years. He received his master's degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. He married Edith Hoekman in 1974 and they raised their family in Holland.
Earl loved his work and was the owner of Architect's Collective P.C. He was also a lifelong and charter member of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church. Earl served his community on the Holland Planning Commission, and was chairman from 1986-1988. In Earl's free time he enjoyed fishing and spending time with Edith, their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Edith, children and grandchildren: Lori and Mike Lincolnhol (Liam, Molly), Eric and Charrie Hemmeke (Lauren, Ethan), Susan and Ryan VanderZouwen (Anna, Samara); sisters: Linda and Roger Smeyers, Jan and Dave Brinks, Donna and Tom Hamberg; in-laws: Juna Hoekman, Mariann Haak, Joanne Hoekman, Thelma Hoekman, Carol and Jean Le Perriere; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A funeral to honor the faith and life of Earl Hemmeke will be held at 11:30 am, Wednesday, at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 918 Central Ave, Holland 49423. Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Tuesday, at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to Escape Ministries, Holland Rescue Mission, or Holland Christian Schools.
