Carl C. Frens, 95, of Zeeland, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at his home on Central Avenue.
Carl was born July 20, 1920, in Grand Rapids, to Carl and Marie (Kok) Frens. He graduated from Zeeland High School and in 1939 he married Faith Viola Hendricks. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. Carl served as a quartermaster on LST 863 in the Pacific Theater of WWII. Carl and Faith raised their family in Zeeland and owned and operated a drapery and upholstery business in downtown Zeeland. Carl later worked for several years at Roamer Yachts, and retired from American Seating. Carl was a member of the Holland Camera Club and enjoyed photography and woodworking. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Zeeland. In 2012, Faith preceded Carl in death after 73 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law James and Ruthe Frens.
He is survived by his children: Douglas Frens of Grand Rapids, Karen and Jim Wedeven of Jenison, Rodney and Wanda Frens of Zeeland, Kaleen and James Schaap of Zeeland; grandchildren: Kristine and James Hartney, Tom and Heather Wedeven, Michelle and Greg Ellis; great-grandchildren, brother Ed and Marilyn Frens of California.
A private interment will take place in Zeeland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland.
