Tribute & Message From The Family

Frances Joan (Kerkstra) Woudenberg, age 87 of Jenison, passed away and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, November 5, 2020. She was born in Grand Rapids on November 9, 1933 to John and Geraldine (Knott) Kerkstra.

Fran is survived by her husband of 67 years, the Reverend Bernard Woudenberg; her children: Philip and Cindy Woudenberg of Arizona, and Luanne and Phillip Warnicke of Kalamazoo; grandchildren: Josh Warnicke, David Warnicke, Aubrey (Shane) Higgins, Mike Woudenberg and Dan Woudenberg; brother-in-law Herm Woudenberg.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Sara Knott, Deane Schipper, Anne Prince and Art Kerkstra.

Fran served alongside her husband in his pastorship in Protestant Reformed Churches in Grand Rapids, Edgerton, MN, Lynden, WA, Kalamazoo, and they retired in 1996. They are members of Georgetown Protestant Reformed Church. She was a faithful and devoted wife who also accompanied her husband on mission trips to Jamaica, Tasmania, and Romania.

Frances was a wonderful wife and mother and was always strong in the faith. When times were difficult or challenging, Fran always looked to the Lord for her strength and we all saw that strength and resolve. She loved plants and had a small flower garden that she really enjoyed until the move to Sunset. Fran also loved the Psalms, and played the piano in the home while singing those beautiful verses. She was always concerned for others, and prayed for those in need regularly. We will miss her genuine and honest smile and kind words of faith.

A family funeral service will be held at Yntema Funeral Home on November 18, 2020. Memorials may be made to Georgetown Protestant Reformed Church. Graveside services will be held in Georgetown Cemetery. Arrangements by the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I knew Fran and Bernie from working at Sunset. I am sorry to hear of this. Both Fran and Bernie were a wonderful couple who I enjoyed very much.

I remember Fran as a hospitable and kind pastor's wife when I came to Kalamazoo as a young wife and mother and knew no one. She had a wry humor and positive trust in our God and time spent with her was precious even though we lived in Kalamazoo for only a year. My deepest sympathies, Rev. Woudenberg, Phil and family and Luanne and family. May God comfort you with His grace and love as you lay her to rest.

I only knew her for a short while way back when, but she seems to always be genuinely happy and content.

She was a loving and caring aunt to me. I have a lot of great memories
