Condolence & Memory Journal

Norma & family,
Connie and I moved away from West Drenthe in 1985 but one never leaves good neighbors completely behind. We are saddened, along with you, at Jarv's passing. You have our sympathy and you all will remain in our prayers over the coming days.
It has been several years since I've seen Jarv's smile, but when I think of Jarv it's his easy smile that I remember. I also remember Jarv's amusing description of a love affair between two neighborhood Rat Terriers.
I was just a kid eavesdropping on an adult conversation between Jarv and Joe Morren. I think Jarv had delivered Joe's male Rat Terrier back home, to Joe. Jarv explained that he had put his female Rat Terrier in the oats bin up over the stable because the dog had come in heat. Jarv had even taken down the ladder to the bin. As insurance against unwanted puppies, Jarv had also placed a hay bale crossways on the barn beam that was the only remaining access any male dog could possibly have to that oats bin. Jarv's female seemed safe and secure but the next morning Joe Morren's male Rat Terrier was in the oats bin too! Jarv and Joe chuckled as they speculated how that male dog could have climbed up the haymow to reach the beam then jumped over the hay bale to reach the oats bin and Jarv's female.
Whether this Rat Terrier love affair produced puppies is not important all these years later. For me all these years later, the importance is my memory of Jarv's smile and his telling of this humorous story. We have all lost a wonderful man.
