Tribute & Message From The Family

Janice Van Haitsma, age 79, of Holland, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at her home at Appledorn.

Janice was involved in many school, church, and community activities. She enjoyed working with children and had a heart for struggling people in all kinds of situations, volunteering at agencies that ministered to those who were hurting.

She loved nurturing people, whether it be through a home cooked meal, a batch of cookies, a poem written especially for them, or a card with an encouraging message. Even toward the end of her life, when daily tasks, including handwriting, became difficult, Jan felt it was important to encourage others through cards and notes.

Jan delighted in her family. When her kids all got together, she insisted on hearing every word, every story. She loved organizing tea parties, reading stories to the grandkids, and having everyone worship at church together. She loved to laugh and make up silly songs, some of which have been remembered for decades.

Above all else, Jan sought to obey and please the Lord. Jan clung to this verse for her entire life: "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."
(Psalm 51:10)

Janice was a member of Niekerk Christian Reformed Church and was employed as the Secretary at South Side Christian School for 25 years. She and her husband, Al, were area representatives for World Renew.

Janice was preceded in death by her siblings, Cleone Meulenbelt, Norm Van Langen, Elsa Texer Brower and Clarice Zuidema.
