Tribute & Message From The Family

James Harlo Huisingh, 80, Holland, Michigan died on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from complications of Parkinson's disease.

Jim was born on March 19, 1939 to Herman and Susie Huisingh in Westfield, North Dakota. He graduated from Strasburg High School and served in the Army from 1957-1959. He was based in Honolulu, Hawaii and received an honorable discharge. Following his military duties, he settled in Holland, Michigan and married Lillian Gras on Oct 14, 1960 and together they raised two sons. He retired from Herman Miller after many years in various departments, concluding as Manager of Purchasing and Corporate Cost Reduction. He was also the proud recipient of a patent for the open office task light many people around the world use today.

He and Lil enjoyed their cabin in Beulah, Michigan and spending winters with friends in Arizona and Florida. He also produced many stained-glass windows for West Michigan homes and loved to golf and hunt with family and friends.

Jim's final years included developing many friends who were part of programs aimed at improving his life with Parkinson's such as Rock Steady Boxing and Peddling with Parkinson's.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lillian Gras Huisingh; sons, Jack (Julie) Huisingh and Rob (Deb) Huisingh; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chelsey and Nick Leonard, Adam Huisingh, Nick and Ashley Huisingh, Madeline Huisingh, Molly Huisingh, Michael and Nicole Huisingh (Mia Renee), Lauren and Scott Herbert (Colson); siblings, Del (Glenda) Huisingh, Roger (Carol) Huisingh and Howard (Judy) Huisingh; and sisters-and-brother-in-law, Cheryl (Dr) Lefers, Yvonne (Carl) Wissink, Ruth (Aldy) Jelsema, Sally Kooi, Ben (Karen) Gras and Loie (Ken) Weenum.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 am on Saturday, November 30, 2019 with the funeral service following at 12 noon in the Sanctuary of Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Road.
