Condolence & Memory Journal
Thanks to you Nancy for letting me know that Leon died. I had just talked to him a couple of weeks ago and he was his usual kind and understanding self. My husband and I truly enjoyed all of the times we spent with Leon and Mike, camping, eating out, watching parades, sharing holidays or just chatting. Lately we only talked by phone, since we could no longer drive and lived far apart. Long friendships are special and I am very thankful we shared one. Leon was so very proud of and happy with his family, and he was absolutely delighted that his granddaughter and family returned to Michigan. We all are better for having known him.

Loved Ones, Leon and Hermina were often in our home at 6289 147th Avenue in years gone by when my parents lived in this home. "Mike" was a caregiver for my mother. So we have precious memories. May the Lord comfort you in the loss of your loved one.

As Leon's caregiver, I am honored to know Mr. Witteveen. We shared many stories, shared many laughs until we cried at times, and we shared some eventful days too. Such a wonderful gentleman. Mr. Witteveen will be missed but never forgotten! Love you very much sir, thank you for your service, thank you for your time and laughter.

Leon will always have a special place in my heart. I followed him at the middle school as principal and he was always the gentleman and willing to be leaned on for support whenever asked. I respected him as a colleague and as a very effective teacher as well. I mourn his loss and send my sympathies to his family.
