"This evening, the Portland Foundation for Public Education took action to place a memorial item to honor the service of Mr. Lampen and commemorate his contribution to the community during the renovation of areas of Portland High School. Mr. Lampen served as Superintendent of Schools during the 1980s and instrumental in improvement of teaching and learning for the students and staff of the public schools. He was a gentleman and scholar.
Community leaders such as Gregg Foote and Keith Neller along with fellow administrators John Clarey and Mannes Overweg are members of the Foundation. A number of former students also commented on the contribution of the Lampen family to the culture that was elevated by their presence during these years."
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We are so sorry for the loss of such a kind man. We were able to witness what a wonderful father-in-law Verne was to Trudy and what a proud, loving grandfather he was to Duffy, Meggi, and George. The Siefert family was blessed to know Verne and honored to have him as a member of our family. We will miss him dearly."
"I have so many beautiful memories of my Uncle Verne growing up.
My dad, mom, my sisters and I spent almost our whole summers in Michigan with my aunts, uncles and cousins. We all loved Uncle Verne so much. He was funny, kind and generous. He made everybody feel like family! He will always be a huge part of my life.
Our sympathy goes out to our much loved aunt, Esther
Much love, Kathy (Steenland) Keavney"
